Enamel erosion in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, is one of the many dental issues in the world today. It occurs when acid attacks and wears down your tooth enamel and it usually results in tooth sensitivity, tooth discoloration, and tooth cracks. This is why it’s best to prevent this issue altogether, and you can do so by doing the following things:
Eat acidic products with meals: Instead of snacking on them throughout the day, it’s best to save acidic foods and drinks for mealtimes. This will neutralize the acid by eating other non-acidic foods. It will also help decrease the amount of time the acidic product is in contact with your teeth.
Drink water: When you eat or drink an acidic food or beverage, it’s best to also sip water. Drinking water while and after consuming an acidic product will help wash the harmful particles away.
Use a straw: If you must drink acidic beverages, it’s best to do so with a straw. Using a straw will reduce the chances of the acid having contact with your teeth. It’s also best to finish the drink quickly instead of sipping it throughout time.
Say no to bubbles: Try to avoid drinking carbonated drinks. You can switch them out with water, milk or tea.
Wait before brushing: Acid softens your tooth enamel, so it’s important that you wait at least 30 minutes to brush after you’ve consumed an acidic product. If you don’t wait, brushing can cause damage to your smile. While you wait, rinse your mouth with tap water.
If you do these things, you’ll be on the right track toward a strong and healthy smile! For more information and details, please feel free to call our office at 908-509-4428. Your dentist, Dr. Mary Rostami, and our dental team are happy to help you!
